Rare Antique is a brand that goes back to before prohibition and was distilled and blended by Frankfort distilleries. During prohibition it became a straight whiskey sold for medicinal purposes. It remained a straight after prohibition in the Frankfort Distilleries portfolio. Seagram’s acquired Frankfort Distilleries in the 1940’s and all of their brands. The brand faded into obscurity when that happened. If it was bottled at all, it was in very small amounts and maybe even as a blend. In the 1960’s Seagram’s tried to enter the straight bourbon market and re-released the Rare Antique and created a brand called Eagle Rare as their products.
