Amaro Montenegro was founded in 1885 in Bologna, Italy by Stanislao Cobianchi. The name was an homage to then Princess Helen of Montenegro and her marriage to Victor Emmanuel III. The recipe is said to be unchanged in the century-plus production and consists of a maceration of over 40 herbs and spices followed by an aging in oak casks.
