Founded in 1831, Destilerias Acha has long been at the forefront of distillation in the Basque Country. The small distillery is located in Amurrio, 50km from the Cantabrian Sea. Today, five generations later, Gabriel Acha maintains the traditions and recipes passed down by his ancestors for the distillation of pachar͡n and creation of vermouths, all of which are made with natural ingredients.

Popular in the Middle Ages, Pacharan was a liqueur made from blackthorn, or sloe, berries with ancient roots in the Basque Country. Atxa Sierra de Orduna Pacharan uses a 150 year old family recipe. Local sloe berries are hand-picked from the Sierra de Orduna hills and then macerated with a triple-distilled spirit. Another batch of this alcohol is used to macerate three types of anise and then redistilled in 130-year-old copper pot stills. Finally, these two batch of spirits are blended together with sugar and alcohol to create Sierra de Orduna Pacharan. A powerful, intense red, this liqueur is fruit-forward and sweet with a light undertone of anise.
