Fruit spirits can be divided up into two categories: “Wasser” and “Geiste”. The most well-known “Wasser” include Schwarzwalder Kirschwasser (cherry), Plum, Mirabell (small yellow plums) and Williams Pear. It is important to know, that written by law, only cherry brandies being distilled and won from cherries in the Black Forest are entitled to be named “Schwarzwalder Kirschwasser”. The most popular “Geist” is the fragrant and intensely-flavoured Himbeergeist (raspberry).
