In the 1870s, Angelo Myers, founded a whiskey distributing company called A & H Myers at 405 N. Third St. in Philadelphia, PA. As his company grew, Angelo Meyers partnered with a distillery founded by Jacob G. Kinsey on the Schuylkill River near Linfield, Pennsylvania.
Because of his experience with distilled spirits, Angelo Meyers became the whiskey specialist, sales agent, & promoter for the original Kinsey Whiskey brand. In the years leading up to Prohibition, the Kinsey Whiskey brand grew quickly from 2,000 to 20,000 barrels winning gold medals at expositions from New Orleans to San Antonio.
Prohibition brought the Kinsey Whiskey success story to a temporary halt from 1920 to 1933.
After Prohibition, Jacob G. Kinsey revived the Kinsey Whiskey brand before selling to the Continental Distilling Corporation of Philadelphia. During that era, Kinsey Whiskey became a very popular brand with an easy drinking taste profile that was popular at the time.
Continental continued to produce and market the Kinsey Whiskey brand until the distillery closed for good in the late-1970’s. The abandoned buildings of the old distillery still remain today along the Schuylkill River.
