MONTE TÉCA

Taking its name from its base of tequila, Monte Téca is a blended cordial made from well-aged gold tequila and various flavorings. Referred to in Mexico as añejo tequila, the gold tequila is thicker, darker and more syrupy than the plain spirit. Monte Teca has hints of vanilla and a slight sweetness.

Since the tequila category is one of the few growth areas in the spirits industry today, we created Monte Téca as a premium liqueur to appeal to popular tastes, says Richard Amen, president of Chatham Imports. Because popular tastes of Baby Boomers emphasize sweetness, Monte Téca satisfies that taste.

What makes the cordial unusual is its chameleon quality as a mixer. Stirred into coffee, Monte Téca takes on the aroma of hazelnut. Mixed with a cola drink, Monte Teca has a cherry flavor. Blended with lime juice, salt and Triple Sec, Monte Téca tastes like a plain tequila margarita. Take your pick, according to your palate.
