Montecristo Rum is “agricultural rum” made from all natural, hand-harvested, pure sugarcane juice, not molasses.
It is remarkably smooth, the result of Montecristo’s unique aging process, which uses American oak bourbon barrels.
Montecristo Rum is a premium spirit obtained by distilling fermented sugarcane juice, a by-product of sugar. Montecristo Rum production begins with the harvesting of sugarcane. When harvesting time arrives, the stalks are cut close to the ground by hand with a sharp machete or with a cane-cutting machine. The leaves are removed in the fields and the stalks are transported to the distillery or sugar mill to be processed. The sugar-laden center pulps of the cane known as “bagasse” are crushed between rollers to extract the pure sugarcane juice.
