In 1917, the Flag of Chicago was created with two red stars, each commemorating “formative events” in the city’s history. As inspiration the original flag design left open space for Chicagoans to pursue their next star.
In it’s current state, the flag has four stars symbolizing:
The Great Chicago Fire(on the original 1917 flag)
The World’s Fair (on the original 1917 flag)
The Century of Progress Exposition (added to the flag in 1933)
Fort Dearborn (added to the flag in 1939)
Since 1939, many proposals honoring people and events have been put forth for memorialization on the flag ‘” yet none deemed significant enough to merit the next star.
The first occasion occurred in the 1940s, when a letter to the Chicago Tribune asked that the next star be added to the city flag in honor of the city’s place in the history of the nuclear age. On another occasion, a star was proposed in honor of Harold Washington, the first African-American mayor of Chicago. A star was also discussed following the Chicago Flood of 1992. A proposal was put forward by the 2016 Olympic Games Bid Committee; if the bid to host the games had been successful, the next star might have been added to the flag.
Inspired by our city’s quest for its elusive next star, our small batch micro-distilling methods harken back to the formative years of vodka-making when quality outweighed mass-quantity.
Utilizing our custom-made copper still and premium Midwestern grain, our master distiller inspects each batch to ensure that our smooth craft vodka is second to none.
