When the Bottled in Bond Act was passed by Congress in 1897 to help insure whiskey quality, Emil Mayer embraced it enthusiastically and advertised widely that his whiskey was in compliance with the act. Even with owning the Oakwood Distillery, however, Mayer seems to have had difficulty obtaining product.
