Ocumare’s humble beginnings date back to May 1, 1938, when they began producing rum in a house located in Caracas, Venezuela using an alambique pot still. The founders controlled the operation with only four employees, working in small warehouses and offices. In 1950, production was transferred to the Hacienda of Guadelupe in Ocumare de Tuy, where expanded warehouses and a modern still were established. The same site today houses a modern, high-tech liquor producing complex, while master distiller and blender Andres Colmenares develops rums that retain the traditional qualities of the founders’ earliest spirits.
