Smith & Cross, founded in 1788, is one of England’s oldest producers of sugar and spirits with strong holdings in Jamaica. Smith & Cross Jamaica Navy Strength Rum is made in Jamaica and bottled in London.

A classic Jamaican rum with robust flavor and notes of exotic fruits and spice. Distilled in Jamaica from fermented molasses from the Hampden Estate, it is a blend of approximately half heavier-bodied Wedderbrun rum aged 6 months and half medium-bodied Plummer rum aged up to 3 years in white oak. The short aging is so that the oak does not dampen the fruit and spice notes. It is perfect for mixing classic rum drinks.

As a Navy Strength rum, it is 57% ABV which was the traditional strength required by the British Royal Navy. Spills at this proof would not prevent gunpowder from igniting and equally important, this concentration provided an efficiency of cargo that was traveling and trading to far-away ports.

Navy Strength should not be confused with Navy Rum, which was for over 200 years a daily ration in the British Royal Navy, and traditionally composed of rums principally from Guyana, also Jamaica and Barbados.
