The first Society for the improvement of agriculture in Scotland was founded in 1723 and embraced all facets of country life including fisheries, introduction of “useful trades and manufactures“ and the preservation of language, poetry and music in the Highlands. The current name “Royal Highland“ refers to the annual show of the Royal Highland and Agricultural Society of Scotland, a society dedicated to the development of perfection in the traditional breeds of cattle, sheep and other domestic animals in Scotland and the stimulation of interest in rural life. Doubtless whisky distilling was one of the “useful manufactures“ nurtured in the early days of the Society and today the patience, selection, care and dedication required to produce this delightful 12 year old Scotch Whisky exactly reflects the essential attributes of the successful livestock breeder.
