The recipe supposedly dates back to the Renaissance. A legend claims that it was created for Lorenzo the Magnificent and rediscovered by Gaetano Tuoni and Giorgio Canepa in 1938.
The liquor was first created as Brandy Milk and it was produced with milk, brandy and vanilla. Later on, it was decided to not use the milk any longer and to change the liquor’s name in Tuoca. In the 1960s, thanks to an Italian living in California, Mario di Grazia, owner of a chain of liquor stores in San Francisco, the selling of the liquor starts in the United States. After that, in order to makeeasier the pronunciation in English the name changed again in Tuaca.
